Program Description
Access to potable water is essential for the health, wellbeing, and long-term resilience of communities. AES’ initiatives improve thousands of lives by expanding access to safe drinking water through the installation of critical infrastructure, distribution of essential resources, and partnerships with communities.
Improving lives
In water-stressed communities, limited infrastructure often restricts access to reliable, safe drinking water. To address these challenges, AES collaborates with local organizations, governments, and communities to deliver tailored solutions. Safe water improves the quality of life for the entire community by improving public health, building climate resilience, and driving economic productivity.
Delivering global impact
Colombia
La Guajira is one of the most water-stressed regions in Colombia, where many community members lack reliable access to potable water. Since 2019, AES Colombia has expanded access to clean water through the Water Route Program, distributing over 11 million liters annually to an average of 8,000 Wayuu Indigenous community members.
México
AES México replaced a one-kilometer drinking water pipeline serving 1,500 residents of the Las Palmas Ejido community in San Luis Potosí, near AES’ TEG TEP plants. The previous pipeline was more than 40 years old and in poor condition, which prevented water from reaching parts of the community. The new infrastructure expanded reliable access to safe drinking water for the entire community.
Panama
In partnership with United Way Panama, the private sector, and government organizations, the Agua en Tu Aula program aims to provide potable water access to schools and educate students on water and electricity conservation. In 2025, AES Panama installed a rainwater harvesting system at La Escuela Gatuncillo to ensure access to safe drinking water for 500 students.
