Building partnerships to strengthen communities

We believe in being a good neighbor, ensuring responsible renewable energy development that benefits both the environment and local communities. That’s why we partner with communities to see how we can best work together to support sustainable social and economic development.

Local impact

We are all in need of more sustainable solutions to power our lives and our world. Strong partnerships allow us to work together to integrate innovative energy solutions, develop positive social impact programs, and create long-term value within the communities.

In 2002, AES Colombia started an initiative to support local mobility in the region of Valle de Tenza (Boyacá) where our Hydroelectric plant Chivor operates, improving bridges and roads, as a strategy to improve productivity and competitiveness of the region. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on “Industry, innovation and infrastructure.”

In 2019, AES Colombia has launched “water route” a clean water distribution program in La Guajira to support Wayuu indigenous communities of influence of our wind development project Jemeiwaa Ka’l. Through this initiative, we deliver more than 11 million liters of clean water every year, benefiting more than 8.000 people. In addition, we are partnering with the Wayuu communities through AES Academy, a structured training program designed to empower communities to lead and manage their own development projects in the territory.

AES Colombia supported the creation and financing of ASODEC in Castilla La Nueva (Meta) and CIVAM in Aipe (Huila), both community-based organizations that provide maintenance services for our solar parks. AES Colombia trained local community members to establish their own businesses, provided technical training, and contributed initial seed capital. This initiative has directly benefited 34 people from these communities.
