A cleaner energy future for the DR:
AES and Energas lead the way
Energas and AES Dominicana formed a joint venture, Energía Natural Dominicana (EnaDom), to reduce the Dominican Republic's reliance on oil by converting existing power generation facilities to natural gas. This collaboration led to the conversion of the 300-MW San Pedro de Macorís Electricity Company (CESPM) plant from diesel to natural gas completed in 2020, contributing to a cleaner and more resilient energy grid where LNG went from suppling approximately 24% of the country’s energy matrix in 2019 to approximately 41% in 2024. The initiative is projected to save the nation $3 billion over ten years and eliminate approximately 892,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
