Program Description
AES believes every student has the potential to become an innovator and future energy leader. As the energy sector continues to evolve, investing early in youth development is critical to building a skilled, future-ready workforce. AES supports programs that expand access to education and creates opportunities that empower the next generation.
Improving lives
AES supports a portfolio of youth education initiatives that help students progress from early Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) exposure to leadership development, career exploration, and hands-on problem solving. While programs are tailored to local market needs, they share a common goal: helping young people build the confidence, skills, and awareness needed to participate in the future energy workforce and lead in their communities.
Delivering global impact
Colombia
In partnership with the She Is Foundation, AES Colombia launched the “Ella es el futuro de la energía” program, to provide access to girls ages 11-16 from remote communities with STEM learning opportunities. Over four months, participants engaged in immersive learning experiences, including sessions developed in classes in collaboration with the U.S. NASA’s space center.
Panama
In Panama, AES collaborates with Nance del Risco School and the Greatness Center to implement the “Líder en mí” program in the communities of Bocas del Toro and Changuinola. Grounded in the “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” the program equips students and teachers with leadership and life skills. Since 2019, it has reached more than 500 participants, helping to foster confidence and community leadership.
United States
In partnership with the STEM Careers Coalition, AES is helping prepare the next generation of energy leaders by equipping K-12 students and educators with high-quality STEM and career content. Since 2019, AES contributed to efforts that reached more than 807,000 students across 931 schools, more than half of which are Title I or under-resourced, across 48 states. In addition, AES has developed 14 digital resources emphasizing renewable energy and battery technologies alongside interactive classroom activities to close content gaps.
Vietnam
AES’ leadership development program empowers local students to develop leadership, innovation and problem-solving skills by designing and implementing projects that address real community needs. Through workshops, mentorship, funding for student-led initiatives and opportunities to showcase their work, 300 students gain hands-on experience while making a positive impact in their community.
