Program description
For over 20 years, AES has implemented energy education programs that help communities understand how electricity works, why it matters, and how to use it safely and responsibly.
Improving lives
Electricity is essential to daily life, but using it safely and efficiently requires practical knowledge. AES’ energy education programs make complex concepts accessible through age-appropriate activities, interactive demonstrations, and real-world examples. By helping children and communities understand electrical safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability, these programs build lifelong awareness and support safer choices around electricity.
In some markets where AES operates, these programs have been in place for more than 20 years, with over 43,000 people reached in 2025.
Delivering global impact
El Salvador
In partnership with ASTER Power and the Tin Marín Museum, AES El Salvador renovated the educational exhibit “Energy and its Guardians”, which will promote awareness about the importance of electricity and environmental sustainability. This immersive exhibit features different stations that combine technology, education and entertainment to stimulate curiosity and learning. Additionally, AES El Salvador launched the digital version of Energía Mágica that incorporates enhanced interactive tools and games and refreshed program content in an accessible format for children, teachers and students interested in learning about the world of electricity.
Panama
In 2025, AES Panama distributed 3,000 illustrated books “Discovering energy with Lucía Park”, and AES volunteers provided educational talks to introduce youth across six local schools to electricity, STEM, and sustainability through storytelling.
United States
AES’ Safety 101 program provides engaging, hands-on electrical safety education to businesses and organizations across service territory in Indiana and Ohio. Led by experienced utility workers, the interactive demonstration uses a scaled-down utility pole with working electrical equipment to visually demonstrate how electricity works and the potential dangers of coming into contact with energized equipment. Through controlled demonstrations, real-world examples and opportunities for questions and discussion, Safety 101 helps audiences better understand electrical hazards and empowers them to make safer choices around electricity.
