Program Description

AES invests in community infrastructure and preparedness initiatives that help communities withstand disruption and recover faster. Working with local partners in the communities where AES operates, the programs fund community infrastructure such as stormwater drainage, resilience hubs, and shared community facilities. Initiatives also include emergency preparedness training, disaster relief, and improving access to food, health services, and other critical resources. Together, these efforts strengthen community health and well-being before, during, and after a crisis.

Improving lives

AES supports initiatives that reduce climate risks, strengthen emergency preparedness, and expand community access to critical resources. Working with local partners, AES upgrades community facilities and stormwater infrastructure, equips  residents with disaster-response skills, and builds solutions that enhance safety, well-being, and long term resilience.

Delivering global impact

NutrirSalta

Argentina

Child malnutrition remains a persistent risk for families in high vulnerability areas of Salta, limiting children’s health and long-term development. Since 2009, AES Argentina has supported the Nutrir Salta Foundation, a non-profit organization addressing child malnutrition through three pillars focused on nutrition, development, and family. AES Argentina’s longstanding partnership has supported an average of 500 children and families in high-risk situations per year, strengthening household health and stability.

Chile

Through a continued partnership with local organizations near the San Matias and Mesamávida wind parks, AES Chile supports resilience by improving local infrastructure. In 2025, AES Chile supported a range of 15 different initiatives aimed at improving community safety and quality of life, including:  distribution of emergency preparedness kits and fire prevention equipment, solar lighting and water pump installations, improvements to community centers and local roads, and the development of community spaces.

Dominican Republic

In 2023, intense rains and flooding resulted in significant damages to the community of San Antonio de Guerra, near AES’ Mirasol solar site. To reduce the community’s exposure to future storms, AES built 34 drains and gullies in nearby neighborhoods. The new drainage channels stormwater away, lowering the risk of repeat damage and mitigating the community’s climate risk.

Hawaii

In 2026, the AES Hawaii Foundation supported Vibrant Hawai’i’s resilience academy workshop series, which provided 150 youth with lifesaving skills and tools to support their communities in times of crisis. Participants gained hands on training in CPR, wilderness survival, household preparedness, and food and traffic safety while also building teamwork, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

Puerto Rico

Since 2019, AES Puerto Rico has collaborated with the Guayama municipality to host informative workshops on hurricane preparedness for residents and community leaders. The workshop includes recommendations for protecting homes and community infrastructure, creating an emergency plan, and the resources available in the event of an evacuation.

GRID Alternatives

United States

In partnership with Grid Alternatives, AES volunteers supported the installation of a 30 kWh battery storage system at an affordable housing property within a government-subsidized housing community in Los Angeles, California. The community resiliency hub now supports over 1,500 residents with device charging, medication refrigeration, and essential services when the power goes out.

In 2025, AES launched the Resilient Communities grant program, designed to enhance community resilience and adaptation through supporting green infrastructure, disaster preparedness, community led climate planning, and community research and training.
