SOLAR POWER IN VIRGINIA

Red Brick Solar Project

in development

AES’ Red Brick project is a planned solar facility in Lunenburg County, Virginia. The project will support the Commonwealth’s goal to generate 100% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2050.

Our clean energy commitment

AES’ Red Brick Solar Project is a planned facility in Virginia. We are committed to responsible clean energy development that creates long-term value and positive impact for both the environment and local communities.

Economic and environmental benefits

We believe in being a good neighbor, ensuring responsible clean energy development that benefits both the environment and local communities without burdening existing infrastructure.

$ Millions in tax revenue

expected to be generated for Pulaski County over the life of the project

100s of local jobs

to be created during construction

Project details

  • Sited on approximately 1,118 acres of privately held, lease land
  • Virginia Electric and Power customers will receive clean energy produced by the project
  • AES will be the long-term owner and operator of the facility
  • At the end of the project's life, a decommissioning plan allows for the land to return to agricultural use or other uses consistent with land-use policies at the time

Sustainability Resources

Sustainability best practices

At AES, safety is our highest priority, and we’ve focused on improving lives for more than 40 years. As a leading innovator in energy solutions, sustainability is core to both our strategy and our culture. We are committed to responsible land use and incorporating sustainable best practices into the entire project lifecycle, contributing to building a domestic circular renewables economy and reducing foreign dependence.

Environmental and technical studies

AES and its environmental consultant conducted a preliminary assessment of the environmental conditions at the site based on a review of publicly available maps, studies, and previous environmental reports prepared for the property. More detailed information is being obtained through due diligence and site-specific studies, as well as community feedback, and will be used to inform the design process.

The Project design will seek to avoid and minimize environmental impacts to the extent possible. Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be implemented to further minimize impacts throughout the Project lifecycle.

Local partnerships

At AES, we understand that our success as a company is only as strong as our partnerships with the communities where we operate. That’s why we partner with communities, customers, state agencies, higher education, elected officials, and other key stakeholders to see how we can best work together to support sustainable social and economic development.
