Solar in Texas

Crescent Solar

in development

The Crescent solar project is a planned  545 MW solar energy project under development in Wilbarger County, Texas. As a company dedicated to developing and delivering energy solutions with long-term impact, our projects create jobs, build community partnerships, generate revenue for local governments and schools, and protect the environment.

Texas has long been a leader in energy generation and innovation, and AES is proud to play a vital role in supporting the state’s efforts to deliver abundant, reliable, and affordable energy.

Our commitment

We believe in being a good neighbor, ensuring responsible clean energy development reflects the unique character and needs of the region, and creates long-term value and positive impact for both the environment and local communities.

Economic and environmental benefits

The project is expected to generate substantial economic and environmental benefits for local communities and the region.

Local impact partnerships

AES has forged strong relationships with local, state and federal leaders ensuring our projects deliver tangible benefits to the communities where we operate. We are a member of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce and supported Texas Hill Country flood relief efforts this summer, with plans to support more local impact.

Tens of millions

Expected to be generated in new tax revenue for Wilbarger County over the life of the project to support local schools, infrastructure and services.

350+ jobs

Expected to be created during peak construction, and an estimated 4-5 long-term operations and maintenance jobs.

Project details

  • AES will be the long-term owner and operator of the facility, ensuring responsible management, sustained economic benefits, and a lasting partnership with the local community
  • AES has collaborated with SOLARCYCLE and their advanced recycling facility in Odessa, TX to recover over 95% of  materials (glass, silicon, silver, copper, aluminum) when panels are damaged during construction or operations, building a domestic circular solar economy and reducing landfill waste
  • At the end of the project's life, a decommissioning plan allows for the land to return to uses consistent with land-use policies at the time
