Bringing energy to Panama

AES Panamá has an installed capacity of 1,216 MW, of which 835 MW come from 100% renewable sources and 381 MW from its liquefied natural gas power plant. Since 1999, the company has invested more than $3.4 billion in innovative infrastructure and energy projects, contributing to Panama’s sustainable development through a diversified energy matrix that integrates hydroelectric, solar, wind, and liquefied natural gas.

Building partnerships to strengthen communities

At AES Panamá, through the AES Panamá Foundation, we believe in being a responsible and close ally to communities. Our commitment is to promote the development of renewable energy in a sustainable manner, generating benefits for both the environment and people. That is why we work hand in hand with communities to identify opportunities that strengthen their social and economic development, building together a more sustainable future for Panama.

Local impact

We are all in need of more sustainable solutions to power our lives and our world. Strong partnerships allow us to work together to integrate innovative energy solutions, develop positive social impact programs, and create long-term value within the communities.

A group of people gathered outdoors for a workshop, standing on grass near wheelbarrows filled with plants. They are listening to a person speaking at the front. The sky is partly cloudy, and there are trees in the background.

In partnership with Wetlands International, we have restored over 5.4 hectares of degraded coastal ecosystems. What began as an environmental requirement evolved into a collective mission involving volunteers, schools, and local communities. Through our Wetlands Defenders initiative, young students are learning firsthand why protecting nature matters—today and for generations to come.

Empowering women means strengthening entire communities. “Mujeres que Brillan” is a catalytic fund designed to strengthen women-led businesses through financial support, visibility and mentorship. Many of these entrepreneurs have gone on to become service providers for AES, proving that when women thrive, entire ecosystems of opportunity grow with them.

Meet Lucía Spark: a curious robot and the star of our educational initiative for children ages 8–13. Designed to inspire the next generation, this illustrated book brings energy and sustainability to life through storytelling—teaching kids how energy works and why their role in Panama’s future is so important.
