Team Leader, Development Center

Are you passionate about developing people, promoting safety, and sharing your technical expertise? Join our team as a Team Leader, Development Center, where you will play a key role in preparing future Electric Line Technicians for successful careers in the field.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will guide and mentor employees through hands-on learning experiences, helping them build the skills, confidence, and safety mindset needed to perform essential utility work. You'll work closely with operations leaders, trainers, and safety professionals while directly influencing workforce development and operational excellence.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced utility professional who enjoys coaching others, fostering teamwork, and contributing to the long-term success of both employees and the organization.

What You'll Do

As a Team Leader, Development Center, you will:

  • Lead daily training and development activities, including skills practice, safety discussions, job planning, practical exercises, and performance evaluations.

  • Coach and mentor employees on safe work practices, construction standards, equipment operation, hazard recognition, switching awareness, and professional expectations.

  • Foster a culture where safety, learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement are valued every day.

  • Partner with field leadership, training personnel, safety professionals, and operations teams to align training experiences with real-world business and operational needs.

  • Monitor participant progress, identify development opportunities, and provide constructive feedback that supports growth and success.

  • Support the creation and maintenance of training materials, lesson plans, practical assessments, skill documentation, and qualification records.

  • Maintain training facilities, vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

  • Support onboarding, employee progression programs, and readiness assessments for operational roles.

  • Maintain accurate records related to training participation, skill attainment, observations, coaching discussions, and assessment outcomes.

  • Participate in storm response and restoration efforts, providing field support, onboarding assistance, scouting activities, and other operational support as needed.

  • Contribute ideas that improve training effectiveness, consistency, employee engagement, and workforce readiness.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.

  • Fully qualified line experience or comparable electric utility field operations experience.

  • Knowledge of overhead and underground distribution construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, restoration practices, and safety standards.

  • Experience coaching, mentoring, training, or developing others in technical or field-based environments.

  • Understanding of safety requirements, work methods, switching principles, job briefing practices, and utility operating procedures.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and support operational or emergency response activities when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as a crew leader, team lead, mentor, safety representative, field trainer, or similar leadership role.

  • Experience supporting apprenticeship, technical training, qualification, or progression programs.

  • Experience developing training resources, assessment tools, work standards, or learning materials.
