The Manager of Work Management is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and continuous improvement of AES Indiana’s work planning and scheduling functions. This role oversees the Work Scheduler team responsible for planning field work, coordinating material procurement, arranging underground locates, and communicating execution plans to construction crews.
The Manager ensures that construction, maintenance, and reliability work is effectively planned and balanced to optimize crew productivity, safety, and system reliability.
In addition, this role provides leadership and oversight for the organization’s Project Management function, ensuring capital and operational projects are executed in alignment with company priorities, budgets, and schedules.
The Manager of Work Management serves as the central coordination point between engineering, construction, outage management, materials management, and other operational groups to ensure work plans are fully coordinated and executed efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
- Provides direct leadership and supervision to the Work Scheduler team and Project Management staff.
- Establishes priorities, performance expectations, and development plans for scheduling and project management personnel.
- Conducts performance evaluations, provides coaching, and supports professional development for team members.
- Ensure consistent planning and scheduling practices across all work management functions.
Work Planning and Scheduling Oversight
- Oversee the development of coordinated work plans that define the logical sequence of activities required for construction, maintenance, and reliability work.
- Ensures work schedulers properly coordinate materials releases, underground utility locates, permits, and other prerequisites required for safe and efficient execution.
- May review and validate schedules to ensure alignment with operational priorities and resource availability.
- May ensure field crews receive clear and timely communication of work plans and schedules.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serves as the primary representative for the Work Management organization with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinates work execution activities with Engineering, Construction, Materials Management, Outage Management, and other operational groups.
- Can lead work coordination meetings to align priorities, schedules, and resource needs across departments.
Outage and Work Coordination
- Reviews weekly the coordination of planned outage work with those who play a role in notifying the customers.
- Ensures prioritization and scheduling of outage-related work to maintain system reliability.
Project Management Oversight
- Provides leadership and oversight of project management activities associated with capital and operational projects.
- Ensures projects are executed according to scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Establishes consistent project management practices and reporting standards.
Performance Monitoring and Process Improvement
- Analyzes work management performance metrics to identify opportunities for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Reviews workload balance between new construction and maintenance/reliability work.
- Implements process improvements to optimize planning, scheduling, and work execution practices.
Financial and Data Management
- Oversees work management data systems and reporting tools used to track work schedules, project progress, and cost forecasting.
- Ensures accurate tracking and reporting of work management performance and operational data.
Safety and Compliance
- Promotes a strong safety culture and ensures compliance with all company safety and health rules, policies, and procedures.
- Ensures work planning processes support safe field operations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Responds to operational questions and escalations related to work planning and scheduling activities.
- Directs investigation and resolution of scheduling discrepancies or operational conflicts.
- Performs other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned to support operational objectives.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of experience in electrical linework or a related field, preferably within the Electrical T&D Utility industry (e.g., Journeyman Electrical Lineman, Electrical Utility Engineer/Designer, or Electrical Utility Project Manager).
- Strong computer skills to include SAP, Microsoft 365, Workday, and OMS systems.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in team environments.
- High level of adaptability, agility, and emotional intelligence.
