We are seeking a Lead Analyst, Analytics & Structuring to join our team at AES República Dominicana. This role plays a key part in supporting strategic decision-making through robust electricity market analysis and long-term system planning.
The Analytics & Structuring Lead Analyst supports the projection of the expansion and operation of the National Interconnected System (SENI) in the short, medium, and long term, incorporating uncertainty through multiple stochastic scenarios. The role involves executing and maintaining electricity market simulation models (SDDP, OptGen, TSL, Suite-PFT, and internally developed tools), integrating market, contractual, and regulatory inputs, and delivering sound, data-driven analysis to support commercial, strategic, and investment decisions. This position requires close collaboration with multiple internal stakeholders and the ability to translate complex quantitative and market concepts into clear insights for diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain the analytical foundations for simulations aimed at optimizing the expansion and operation of the SENI.
Analyze key variables including fuel prices, renewable resources (solar and wind), new generation projects, curtailment, start-ups and shutdowns, frequency regulation, maintenance schedules, and long-term demand projections.
Execute electricity market simulations and analyze results such as marginal costs, decoupling, renewable curtailment, generation dispatch, and maintenance impacts.
Analyze the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) of different technologies and regulatory frameworks, assessing their impact on AES’s margins and investment decisions.
Collect, validate, and analyze electricity market data; maintain and update databases using multiple internal and external data sources.
Coordinate with internal teams (Business Development, M&A, FP&A, Accounting, among others) to align long-term assumptions and support commercial projections and investment evaluations.
Conduct end-of-month reviews with Accounting to ensure commercial models remain accurate and up to date.
Manage and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences in both Spanish and English.
Monitor and analyze current and evolving market regulations, identifying risks, opportunities, and potential impacts on existing and future assets.
Prepare periodic reports based on budget and scenario simulations, and develop, update, and enhance dashboards that clearly communicate assumptions, methodologies, and results.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
3 to 5 years of experience performing similar analytical roles, preferably within the electricity or energy market.
Experience with programming languages and data management tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, and GCP.
Upper intermediate/advanced level of English is required.
Knowledge of electricity markets is preferred but not required.
Experience with electricity market simulation models (SDDP, OptGen, TSL, Suite-PFT) is a plus but not mandatory.
Key Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to manage tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights.
Collaborative mindset and comfort working across multidisciplinary teams.
Nosotros somos la energía que mejora la vida de más de 10 millones de personas, a través de los muchos beneficios que provee la electricidad.
