AES is seeking an experienced Ethics & Compliance Officer to lead and strengthen the Ethics & Compliance Program across its operations in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

The Ethics & Compliance Officer strategically and operationally leads the implementation and operation of the Ethics & Compliance Program at AES businesses in Mexico and Dominican Republic. The Compliance Officer ensures compliance with all relevant and applicable laws and regulations – including relevant anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and economic sanction and trade controls – in a manner that supports the business operations and development objectives.

The Compliance Officer will promote a culture of integrity and ethical decision-making throughout the organization. Reporting directly to the AES Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer with matrix reporting to the Market Business Leaders in Mexico and Dominican Republic, the Ethics & Compliance Officer will be in integral part of The AES Corporation’s global Ethics & Compliance organization.


Primary Responsibilities:
Educate and train employees on ethics and compliance issues, including regulations and policies related to anti-corruption, sanctions, conflicts of interest, gifts and entertainment, charitable contributions and political donations, workplace harassment, and other business and compliance risks.
Conduct due diligence on third party business partners, services providers, joint venture partners, and acquisition targets and advise on third party risks and mitigation strategies.
Respond to alleged violations of the Code of Conduct or other rules, regulations, policies or procedures by conducting investigative procedures and recommending remedial actions as necessary.
Perform periodic risk assessments and evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Legal, Internal Audit, Human Resources,
Environmental Health & Safety, and Controller, to ensure timely resolution of issues and mitigation of risk.
Address employee concerns or questions regarding ethics and compliance issues.
Keep abreast of regulatory requirements and business goals.

Education, Qualifications and Expertise:
8 + years of compliance experience in a similar in-house role, law firm, or external audit firm.
Legal degree preferred; candidates with extensive forensic audit and investigations experience will be considered.
Knowledge of the requirements of relevant anti-corruption laws, including the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). the Mexican National Anti-Corruption System and Dominican anti-corruption regulations.
Fluency in both English and Spanish.
Strong writing, presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to be proactive, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work independently.

Sound and independent judgment in complex and sensitive cases.
Ability to communicate effectively and with structured thinking, in writing and verbally, with the global Ethics & Compliance team and with AES senior leaders, including members of the AES Executive Leadership Team.
Ability to network and create strong working relationships across the global organization.
Demonstrated ability to be proactive, manage multiple projects simultaneously, think creatively, work independently, and prioritize work.
Team oriented.
Experience in the Energy Industry is a plus
