Project  name:

Trees for Indy and Indy Free Tree Day

Project location:

Indiana, U.S.

Sub-focus area:

Green spaces

Trees for Indy, a partnership of AES Indiana, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. and DPW / Indy Parks, is focused on significantly increasing plantings of public trees in Indianapolis and surrounding AES Indiana service areas, providing care to those trees to enhance their longevity and educating the public about the important role trees play in our quality of life.

AES Indiana celebrates Arbor Day each year with the annual Indy Free Tree event to support ongoing sustainability efforts. At the event, 1,000 free trees are available to the community on a first-come, first-served basis. AES Indiana encourages those receiving free trees to "plant smart" and follow the utility's Right Tree, Right Place planting guidelines.

Impact:

Trees for Indy has planted more than 15,000 trees in the Indianapolis area since 1990.
Indy Free Tree Day has worked with community partners on Arbor Day to give away 11,000 trees since 2008.
