AES Vietnam presents scholarships to disadvantaged students in Binh Thuan Province

AES Vietnam, in collaboration with the Association for Promoting Education of Ham Tan District and Son My Commune in Binh Thuan Province, presented 120 scholarships to disadvantaged students in the locality. The award ceremony was organized with the attendance of representatives from local authorities, schools and the Association.

The scholarship package, worth a total of VND100 million, was presented to 120 local students from 20 schools of Ham Tan District, which includes 70 students from Son My 1 Primary School, Son My 2 Primary School and Son My Secondary School in the communes of Ham Tan and Son My, who have just returned to school after a long period of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the province.

Mr. Nguyen Cong My, Chairman of the Association for Promoting Education of Son My Commune, said, “During the pandemic, many economic activities were suspended and the income of local households was seriously affected, especially those in disadvantaged circumstances. This has increased the risk students to drop out of school due to financial difficulties. The scholarships provided by AES Vietnam, therefore, have been critical in helping to address this challenge. On behalf of the locality, schools, and students' parents, I would like to thank AES Vietnam for its continuing support for local people, students and the education sector."

Mr. David Stone, President of AES Vietnam, said, “At AES Vietnam, education is always a top priority in our community support program and I hope that these scholarships will motivate local students and encourage them to advance their studies. We believe education is the foundation for future growth, and by equipping our young people with the best facilities and equipment, we can ensure a talented and motivated generation to drive the country forward.”

This is the second year AES Vietnam has implemented the scholarship program for disadvantaged students in Binh Thuan Province. The scholarship program is an important part of AES' social impact program in Vietnam. Over the past 15 years, AES and its subsidiaries have implemented 135 CSR programs, focusing on four key pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure – contributing to making a permanent difference and improving the quality of life for more than 200,000 people in local communities in Vietnam.
