AES Vietnam helps provide clean water to 2500 local people and students in Binh Thuan Province
AES Vietnam supports a project aiming to promote access to clean water in Son My Commune, Ham Tan District, Binh Thuan Province. The support, which was in-kind, was handed over at a ceremony organized at the village hall of Hamlet 2, Son My Commune, with the participation of Son My People’s Committee, school principals, hamlet leaders and representatives of AES Vietnam.
The project, which total cost is VND268 million, includes four water pumps provided to Son My Commune and three water purification machines for local schools, including Son My 1 Primary school, Son My 2 Primary school and Son My Secondary school. It is expected that the project will benefit 1600 local residents and 1000 students, attending the schools in the area .
Mr. Hoang Tuy, Vice Chairman of Son My Commune, said, “During the peak months of the annual drought, local people usually have to buy water for VND70,000 to VND100,000/m3. The system of pumps and water tanks will help save costs and solve the problem of water scarcity in the local area, while the installation of water purifiers for local schools will ensure pure drinking water for students and enable better health and hygiene conditions in schools. On behalf of the local people and commune authorities, I would like to thank AES Vietnam for their practical support which ultimately increases the standards of living in our local communities.”
AES has installed four systems of pumps, tanks and arranged water intake faucets so that people can come and get water, which is critically necessary during the peak dry season months. The pump and tank systems are installed in four wells in Son My Commune. The project was initiated following a close consultation with local authorities of Son My Commune and thorough inspections and assessment by AES staff. The systems were designed and set up under close monitoring of AES team, following AES safety standards and guidelines.
“At AES, we believe we are all in need of more sustainable solutions to power our lives and improve our communities. I am glad to see that the project will make clean water accessible for local residents and students, and create a positive difference in their lives. Through projects like this, we hope to continue to support the safe and sustainable development of the communities in Binh Thuan Province,” said David Stone, President of AES Vietnam.
The project is part of AES Vietnam’s social impact program, which was initiated in 2019 with many other community support programs in Binh Thuan Province. These include joint efforts with local authorities to fight the Covid-19 pandemic by donating masks and test kits, granting scholarships to poor students and giving gifts to poor households for the Lunar New Year.
