Partnering for relief efforts

We work as one team with our people, contractors, customers, partners and communities to respond to natural disasters or catastrophes in the communities. This includes making resources available, volunteering, and supporting the front-line workers and organizations before, during and after an event.

In September 2017, Hurricane Maria left Puerto Rico devastated. AES provided 1,500 gallons of diesel to the Puerto Rico Sewage Authority supporting the water plant servicing Guayama, the community where our plant is located. The local team helped clear roadways for people to access supplies and services. AES in the Dominican Republic also supported the recovery efforts by sending water, food and other supplies to the island.

In 2019, the Dayton, OH area needed AES’ help following the devastation caused by 19 tornadoes that touched down in the late hours of May 27 into early the next morning. AES supported workers and the community in the immediate recovery and rebuilding efforts. The company also offered the opportunity for our people across the globe to contribute to the long-term rebuilding efforts. AES people expressed their eagerness to participate in the recovery process and contributed donations that were matched through The Dayton Foundation.

The funds raised and donated by AES people were used to purchase supplies and provide other forms of support to both AES people and the broader Dayton community who were affected by the tragic events. Additional contributions were used to make grants targeted to local, non-profit organizations supporting the long-term recovery and economic re-development in our neighboring communities.

Dayton Power & Light, now AES Ohio, received the Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI’s) “Emergency Recovery Award” for its outstanding power restoration efforts.

Since 2015, DP&L has partnered with The Salvation Army to provide emergency relief funding to customers who are facing disconnection and cannot pay their electric bills due to unexpected life events. DP&L recognizes the loss of a job, death of a spouse, major medical bills or other financial hardships can happen at any time and make it difficult to continue timely bill payments.

Through the Gift of Power program, DP&L hasalso donated $675,000 to light the homes and hearts of its neighbors in Ohio. Along with customer donations, the Program has helped more than 2,000 families keep their lights on.
