AES Vietnam awards AES Future Energy Scholarships to students majoring in electricity

AES Vietnam in collaboration with the Center for Education and Development (CED) awarded Future Energy Scholarships to 20 students.

The students receiving the scholarships this year include 10 studying electrical engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, five studying at the Faculty of Energy Technology at Electric Power University and five studying at the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Science - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The awards are part of an annual scholarship program implemented by AES since 2017. One of AES Vietnam's top priorities is investing in education, training and preparing a highly-skilled workforce for Vietnam's energy sector, in the context of increasing demand for electricity in Vietnam.

At the ceremony, Mr. Kris Larson, Construction Project Director, AES Vietnam, said, “At AES Vietnam, developing high-tech human resources from the local workforce is one of the sustainable development goals that we are pursuing in Vietnam. I am very pleased to see that this scholarship program has reached its 5th year with so many excellent students benefiting. This scholarship program is part of AES Vietnam's community support program to invest in education, which is a key element in maintaining sustainable development in our communities. I hope that the scholarship program will energize the students to study and strive to develop their skills as well as assist them in accessing opportunities to participate in the future of the country's energy sector.”

The scholarship program is specially designed with the aim of reducing the financial burden, organizing career orientation activities and building soft skills throughout the school year for students. The intensive training courses organized by CED will provide practical information to help promote students' potential and knowledge about the energy industry and help them shape their future careers.

The selected students will not only receive a cash grant of VND14,000,000 but also benefit from soft skills training, learning English, volunteering to support the community and visiting Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant in Quang Ninh Province.

In addition to education, AES Vietnam has also implemented many other social responsibility projects focusing on the areas of Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure in the provinces of Quang Ninh and Binh Thuan. Since 2012, a total of 135 initiatives have been implemented and have made a long-lasting impact in improving the lives of more than 200,000 people in local communities in Vietnam.

Attending the award ceremony, representatives of AES Vietnam answered questions from students about career opportunities in the energy industry and necessary skills when working in this field. This scholarship program has received strong support from university administrators and is continually attracting more interest from students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phong,  Vice President, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said, “We are delighted and appreciate the support from AES for students majoring in electricity and energy. The scholarship provides great encouragement for them to study harder and gives them the opportunity to improve soft skills that are important for their personal and career development in the future.”

Ha Minh Son, a student at the School of Electrical Engineering, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, spoke about his experience of the scholarship program. “The Future Energy Scholarship is a source of pride, for myself and my family, when it comes to the achievements that I have been fortunate to have made during my studies at the university. The financial support from the scholarship has enabled me to pursue scientific research more effectively and at the same time helps my family pay for tuition. The values that I gain are also extremely useful in life skills. I got to know and interact with many outstanding students from other provinces and cities. In particular, the visit and exchange of experiences at Mong Duong 2 Power Plant strongly promoted my desire to study and research in this field. I would like to express my gratitude to the company and the staff involved in the scholarship program for offering these extremely meaningful values.”
