Strategic Business Units (SBUs)
We are organized into six market-oriented SBUs:
- United States SBU
- Andes SBU (Argentina, Chile, Colombia)
- Brazil SBU
- Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean SBU (Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico)
- Europe SBU (Bulgaria, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, United Kingdom)
- Asia SBU (India, Philippines and Vietnam)
By organizing based on geographic regions, we have a better socio-political-economic understanding of our business in each market.
Each of our six SBUs is dedicated to improving lives through energy generation, utilities and other energy solutions such as energy storage and distributed energy.
We own and/or operate power plants, which we use to generate power for our customers, such as utilities, industrial users and other intermediaries. We strive to provide diverse fuel technologies that are well-suited to the individual markets in which we operate. These fuel technologies include coal, diesel, gas, oil and renewables.
We own and/or operate utilities to provide electricity to end-user customers in the residential, commercial, industrial and governmental sectors within a local or regional service area. Some of our utilities also generate and sell electricity on the wholesale market. AES has seven utilities, or distribution companies, powering major cities from São Paulo, Brazil to Indianapolis, IN. We have expanded electricity access to first-time customers in Brazil and El Salvador, and modernized distribution networks to transmit power and heat efficiently and safely in the United States.
AES Energy Storage is a leader in commercial energy storage solutions, which improve flexibility and reliability of the power system, and provide customers with a complete alternative to traditional peaking power plants. The company’s Advancion® 4 energy storage solution is available for sale to leading utilities, power markets, and independent power producers, and AES Energy Storage and its partners can manage installations from concept to operation with a market-proven solution that integrates best in class battery and power conversion technologies. AES Energy Storage introduced the first grid-scale advanced battery-based energy storage solution in commercial operations in 2008 and operates the largest fleet of battery-based storage assets in service today. AES Energy Storage has a total of 432 MW of interconnected energy storage, equivalent to 864 MW of flexible resource, in operation, construction or late stage development in seven countries.
