Building partnerships to strengthen communities

Various projects and actions have been carried out in support of the community, reflecting AES México’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing safety as a core company value, preserving the environment, creating jobs, and generating a positive impact in communities near its power plants reinforcing its dedication to the region. We contribute to generating long-term well-being in the communities where we operate. One such initiative is the construction of a pedestrian walkway and bike path that has benefited +35,000 residents improving their quality of life. This walkway benefits the safety, health, and finances of Tamuín residents. Its goal is to improve the route and safety for students, merchants, and workers who use this path for their daily activities. It is an initiative for safe and sustainable mobility that benefits the community.

Local impact

Working together, we design social impact programs based on the needs of our neighboring communities, maximizing resources and delivering lasting impact. Our social development programs are aligned with our purpose of accelerating the future of energy, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and our pillars for social development that improve the quality of life in communities.

In 2024, the project “Water for all” AES México made a donation of 1 KM of pipeline and fittings for the installation of drinking water pipeline for the Las Palmas Ejido, a neighboring community of the TEG TEP plants in Tamuín, San Luis Potosí. Although the community had a pipeline, it was over 40 years old and in poor condition, which prevented water from reaching that part of the community and the cemetery located in that sector. This donation responded to a priority need of the community with +1,500 beneficiaries.

AES México installed a solar irrigation system across 28 plots in Xcunyá, Mérida, as part of an agricultural project led by Mayan women. The participants received training to operate and maintain the system, directly benefiting 17 women and 85 of their family members, and indirectly supporting 998 residents. These families engage in productive activities such as growing vegetables, medicinal plants, fruit trees, and raising animals, strengthening their household economy and reducing electricity expenses.

In 2022, AES México, through the Sustainable Micro-Entrepreneurship Program, supported entrepreneurs in communities across Tamaulipas to improve the long-term quality and availability of products and services. This initiative strengthened the connection between the social responsibility of various sectors and the entrepreneurial spirit of local communities, driving sustainable economic and social development in Mexico. With the support of the Cruz Roja, municipal authorities of Llera, the State Energy Commission, and the civil association Netaa, participants received financial training, joined an entrepreneurial network, and accessed a fund provided by the company to acquire assets, including machinery and supplies, which they repaid at zero interest directly to the Cruz Roja under a personalized payment plan.
