Gustavo is integral to developing strategic plans that have materially simplified our overall “equity story” while positioning AES as one of the leading renewable developers in the world. He is a strategic and financial advisor to the AES board and directs three of our holding companies. Gustavo informs a broad range of activities, including corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, establishing a risk management framework, investing in new technologies, communicating with investors, and providing a compensation framework for our people.
His previous experience at AES, including leading the financial operations of our businesses in Brazil, Mexico, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and El Salvador has positioned him to manage transformative multi-billion-dollar initiatives across each of our markets.
His leadership at AES is guided by his previous global experience, serving as an international leader at Citibank and KPMG.
Gustavo received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and a master’s degree in economics and finance from Fundação Getulio Vargas in Sao Paulo. He continued his education with development programs in finance, strategy and risk management at New York University, University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and Georgetown University.
Gustavo loves cooking and spending time with his wife and kids. As a former competitive soccer player, he is passionate about the sport.
