Our Leadership

Andrés Gluski has served as President and CEO since 2011, after serving as COO for five years. Previously he served as CEO of both AES Gener in Chile and La Electricidad de Caracas in Venezuela. Andrés held senior positions in banking, telecom, the IMF and the public sector before joining AES in 2000. During his tenure as President and CEO, Andrés has led AES through a dramatic transformation by focusing on simplification, risk improvement and innovation. He has led the company through a $5 billion divestiture program, increased the credit rating by multiple notches and initiated a quarterly dividend, which has grown at an 8% annual rate. Andrés has also overseen the largest construction program in AES’ history, with more than 5,000 MW of new power generation completed. Under his leadership, AES has become a world leader in implementing new clean technologies, including energy storage, wind, solar and LNG. Navigant Research has consistently ranked Fluence—AES’ joint venture with Siemens—as the #1 grid-scale energy storage integrator in the world. Andrés also established sustainability and corporate social responsibility goals that resulted in AES’ inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for North America for the past six years and designation as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for six years in a row by the Ethisphere® Institute. In 2018 the company established aggressive carbon reduction goals and became the first publicly-traded power company to issue a climate report that complies with recommendations from the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures. He has been invited to serve as an expert witness at US Congressional hearings on the subject of energy policy and Latin America. He currently serves on the US-Brazil CEO Forum and the US-India CEO Forum. He is a member of the Board of The AES Corporation, Waste Management and Fluence. He is also Chairman of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, a Director of the Edison Electric Institute and a member of the Business Roundtable. Andrés is a magna cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University and earned his MA and PhD in economics from the University of Virginia.

Bernerd was named AES’ COO in January 2015. Responsible for AES’ global operations including more than 30,000 MW and six utilities serving tens of millions of people, Bernerd drives our businesses’ operational excellence, performance and efficiencies. He played a critical role in the implementation of AES’ Strategic Business Units (SBUs) to further the execution of AES’ strategy by driving business performance through asset, work, revenue and sourcing management programs, replicating best practices globally and achieving world-class performance. Bernerd puts safety first and is proud that AES people and operations contractors have achieved global lost time incident rates that rank in the top 10% based on US benchmarks.

He brings proven experience in international corporate finance and business transformation for generation, transmission and distribution companies in the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia to his role as COO. Bernerd built his capabilities through positions of increasing responsibility prior to becoming COO. Most recently, he served as CFO for AES’ Global Finance Operations. He was previously CFO for the Utilities group and for the Latin America and Africa group. Bernerd joined AES through its acquisition of La Electricidad de Caracas (EDC) where he held a number of leadership positions.

Bernerd is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Universidad José Maria Vargas with Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration, Business Management and Finance, and an MBA. He also completed the Advanced Program at Instituto de Estudios Superiores y de Administración (IESA) in Caracas.

Paul heads the company’s legal department and ethics and compliance efforts as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Prior to assuming his current role, Paul served in several positions at AES, including Chief of Staff to the CEO, Assistant General Counsel and General Counsel, North America Generation. Paul is a member of the boards of IPALCO, AES U.S. Investments, DP&L and Fluence. He is also an alternate Director at AES Gener. Prior to joining AES, Paul was Chief Counsel for credit programs at the U.S. Agency for International Development and he previously worked as an associate at the law firms of White & Case and Freshfields. Paul received a BA from Columbia University and a JD from the Georgetown University Law Center.

At AES, our people are our energy and Tish works to ensure that our people around the world are energized by what they do and developing to their fullest potential. Her leadership in this area was recognized in 2014 with the designation of Top 10 Breakaway Leader in HR by Evanta.

Since joining AES in 2006, Tish has served in a number of leadership roles in Human Resources as Vice President of Utilities Human Resources and Vice President of Global Compensation, Benefits and HRIS, including Executive Compensation. Tish gained Human Resources leadership experience in the financial services and technology industries including JP Morgan Chase and Vastera, Inc, a former technology and managed services company.

Tish studied management, leadership, organizational development and human resources through programs at Villanova University, Strayer University, University of Maryland University College and University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. She earned certificates in leadership and human resource management and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Human Resources. She serves as Chair of AES’ compensation and benefits committee. Tish is co-chair of Evanta Global HR, serving on the Washington, DC governing body.

As AES accelerates a cleaner energy future, Leo leads the design and execution of AES’ global strategy, oversees the company’s growth investments, manages AES’ global commercial activities and heads a unit to incubate new businesses with the potential to become transformative, high growth platforms.
Leo previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for AES’ Europe Strategic Business Unit, managing businesses in Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. In his 12 years with AES, he has held numerous leadership positions at both the corporate and business levels. Leo managed mergers, acquisitions, divestments, sell-downs, material contract negotiations and restructurings throughout AES’ global portfolio, leading transactions in the US, Central and South America, Europe, Africa and Asia. At AES Brazil, he ran teams in charge of strategy, financial planning, risk management and investment analysis. Leo worked for Ernst & Young prior to joining AES.
Leo has a degree in Business Administration from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil, and has completed executive business and leadership programs at the London Business School, Georgetown University and University of Virginia.

Gustavo was named AES’ CFO in January 2019. As CFO, Gustavo is responsible for driving, tracking and reporting the company’s financial performance as well as managing our outreach to investors. Prior to his current role, Gustavo served as Deputy CFO for AES. He previously held roles as CFO for AES’ Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean Strategic Business Unit and as CFO at AES Brazil. Gustavo serves as Chairman of the Board of sPower, and as a director of the boards of IPALCO and AES Gener. Before joining AES, Gustavo was Vice President of Strategy and M&A for Citigroup in London and New York after joining the bank in Brazil. He began his career at KPMG. Gustavo received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais and a Master’s degree in Economics and Finance from Fundação Getulio Vargas. He also participated in development programs in Finance, Strategy and Risk Management at New York University, University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and Georgetown University.
