Improving Lives in the United States

Through our two utilities and various generation facilities, our people help meet current and increasing energy needs in the US in a sustainable way, while providing communities the opportunity for economic growth through the availability of reliable, affordable electric power.

The US SBU includes two utility businesses, Indianapolis Power and Light (IPL) and Dayton Power and Light (DPL). IPL improves the lives of our customers in the region by delivering electric service to 490,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Indianapolis and other central Indiana communities. DPL, an energy holding company, serves our customers in the region via its principal subsidiaries—DP&L and AES Ohio Generation.

  • DP&L transmits, distributes and sells electricity to more than 515,000 customers in West Central Ohio.
  • AES Ohio Generation, solely or through jointly owned facilities, owns 2,864 MW of generation capacity and numerous transmission facilities.

Our US-based generation facilities serve customers in California, Hawaii, Maryland, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and West Virginia. In California alone, AES Southland is one of the largest generators, accounting for approximately 5 percent of the state’s installed capacity and 17 percent of the peak demand for Southern California Edison. AES Southland’s three coastal power plants serve key areas designated as critical for local reliability and play an important role in integrating the increasing amounts of renewable generation resources in California.
