Since 1995, IPL, in partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB), has sponsored a program supporting partnerships with neighborhood-based organizations to help eliminate blight and provide the expertise and resources to revitalize neighborhoods and public spaces. Throught the IPL Project GreenspaceSM program (formerly called Project 180°/IPL Revive a Neighborhood), IPL and KIB have helped improve the quality of homes and neighborhoods, increased and beautified green space, educated young people on the importance of a healthy environment and brought diverse groups of people together.
IPL has donated more than $395,000 to since its inception. This program partners with neighborhood-based organizations to serve as a member of the development team. KIB solicits private sector cash, in-kind contributions and volunteers to help community leaders improve their neighborhoods.
In December of 2005, IPL was honored with a first place national award for its work with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. The Keep America Beautiful National Award recognizes local corporations whose commitments to community improvement contribute to more beautiful, cleaner, and improved neighborhoods and public spaces. IPL was recognized for its Trees for Tomorrow and Project 180o/IPL Revive A Neighborhood programs.
