May in Indianapolis definitely means power!
Whether powering up the computers behind the sophisticated scoring tower at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, or lighting up a garage for a race mechanic pulling an all-nighter, Indianapolis Power & Light Company is there!
IPL adds a burst of excitement as the title sponsor for one of the best-known events of May in Indianapolis: the IPL 500 Festival Parade. One of the biggest parades in the country, the IPL 500 Festival Parade will fill the streets of Downtown Indianapolis on May 29, 2010, the day before the race. It will include floats, marching bands, giant helium-filled balloons, all 33 Indy 500 drivers, the 500 Festival Princesses, and nationally-known celebrities. This year's parade theme is "Embrace the Pace."
Continuing its tradition as the only organization that has had a float in the event every year since the parade’s first year in 1957, IPL again will exhibit a float. Last year's float commemorated the Speedway's 100th anniversary with depiction of the 1909 balloon race at the facility.
The parade sponsorship joins IPL’s extensive commitments to community involvement; more than $2 million in 2009 alone dedicated to grants, event backing and other community sponsorships.
