AES Announces Extension of $500 Million Stock Repurchase Program

ARLINGTON, Va., Dec 31, 2010 -- The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) today announced that it has extended its stock repurchase program of up to $500 million, which was introduced on July 7, 2010 and was set to expire on December 31, 2010. This amount includes those shares that have been acquired since the stock repurchase program began.

Under this authorization, the Company may repurchase shares through a variety of methods, including open market repurchases and/or privately negotiated transactions. There can be no assurance as to the amount, timing or prices of repurchases, which may vary based on market conditions and other factors. The stock repurchase program may be modified or terminated by the Board of Directors at any time.
