AES operations span the entire United States: from upstate New York with some of the most environmentally friendly coal-fired plants in the country; across California and Texas with state-of-the-art wind farms; and in Indiana with one of the most reliable integrated utilities in the country, Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL).

Since our founding, AES has been a leader and innovator in this highly developed and highly competitive power sector. AES is rapidly expanding capacity in wind generation across the country. AES helped pioneer circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology in the United States and we continue to enhance the environmental performance of our fleet—from AES Deepwater in Texas to AES Westover in New York. In 2006, the US Department of Energy selected AES Greenidge, a 161 MW power plant in upstate New York, as a demonstration plant for new pollution control equipment designed to curtail emissions from small, coal-fired plants across the US. A leader among electric utilities in system reliability, IPL maintains some of the lowest electricity rates in the US and will soon complete a 10-year, $600 million multi-pollutant reduction initiative.
