AES El Salvador’s four distribution companies together serve more than 80% of the country’s electric power market. AES brings power all across the country—from distribution companies CAESS in the north to DEUSEM in the south to EEO in the east and CLESA in the west.
In addition to distribution, AES El Salvador has planned the construction of its first generation plant in the country—a 250 MW coal-fired generation plant. This greenfield project has been designed to provide a sustainable supply of power for local markets, while creating the possibility for AES to become a power exporter to neighboring countries. The plant will help diversify El Salvador’s power generation sources in the country and help produce the energy needed to support further economic growth.
AES El Salvador has formed an Advisory Board that includes some of the country’s most notable opinion makers. The Board offers a deep understanding of the local and regional economy, leading to more effective decision-making. The success of this initiative has led other AES businesses in nearby countries to begin development of similar Advisory Boards.
Committed to improving the lives of all Salvadorans, AES El Salvador has instituted rural electrification programs that have helped 19,000 families gain access to electricity. The Entrepreneurial Foundation for Social Action (FUNDEMAS, in Spanish), a local foundation whose objective is to stimulate social responsibility initiatives within the private sector, has recognized AES El Salvador for excellence as a responsible corporate citizen and business partner.

A Global Presence
 |
| Rural electrification transforms lives in El Salvador When a village gets electricity and farmers can run their irrigation systems, campesinos and students can read at night, refrigeration keeps produce and medicines fresh, and TV and radio bring the outside world in, the effects of bringing steady, reliable electric power to a community for the first time are profound. Lives are changed forever. | |
