Peer-to-peer reviews generate best practices

In AES’s Europe, CIS and Africa region, best practices are often spread through a peer-to-peer review program, which brings teams of AES Plant Managers to various facilities in the region to review plant operations. At times, the results can be both beneficial and unexpected. A team of AES plant managers from the UK, Spain and Hungary recently evaluated AES Ebute, a 305 MW power plant in Nigeria. The team expected the intensive review to result in recommendations for improvements at the Nigerian plant. But what the team also found was a better way to operate other plants. AES Ebute’s Gas Turbine Hot Gas Path (HGP) Life Cycle Management System proved to be a best practice, achieving higher plant availability at optimal costs. And it became a model throughout the region.

Best practices spread quickly at AES, so it’s no surprise that the Europe, CIS and Africa region’s peer review initiative itself is being replicated in other regions. Bringing into play experiences gained in so many different countries and businesses—drawing on a global team of 28,000—helps continually raise performance levels across AES worldwide.
