AES Energy Storage receives Outstanding Industry Award

AES Energy Storage was the recipient of the Brad Roberts Outstanding Industry Award presented by the Energy Storage Association. AES’ energy storage projects are deployed around the world in diverse applications and their leadership role in the industry displays a substantial commitment to advancing energy storage.

AES Executives Honored as Smart Grid Pioneers

November 2013

AES employees, Chris Shelton and Maria Tereza Travassos Vellano, have been named to the 50 Smart Grid Pioneers of 2013 by Smart Grid Today. They are among the top experts and risk-takers who are working to find smart grid solutions to electricity challenges around the world. AES is the only company to have two executives on the list. Vellano is at the helm of AES Eletropaulo’s smart grid program. Chris Shelton is the President of AES Energy Storage.

Largest Advanced Grid-Scale Energy Storage Facility in Ohio Launched at DP&L

September 2013

AES is now operating 40 MW of energy storage in Ohio at the DP&L Tait generating station in Moraine, Ohio. The project provides fast-response frequency regulation services to the PJM Interconnection to stabilize a grid that serves over 60 million people. The facility is the largest of its kind in Ohio and helps to meet the needs otherwise provided by power generation from inefficient or retiring power plants, reducing overall system emissions and water use while optimizing existing grid resources. As AES' fifth facility to run on its Storage Operating System, the company is now operating more than 100 MW of grid-scale storage in the U.S.

DPL Energy Resources Receives Highest Ranking in Ohio from J.D. Power

June 2013

DPL Energy Resources received the highest rating for Ohio retail electric providers in a 2013 J.D. Power & Associates Retail Electric Provider Satisfaction Study. The company was noted as having performed well in price, communications, corporate citizenship and customer service. The study, the first of its kind by J.D. Power, measured satisfaction among residential customers of seventy-one retail electric providers in eight states by examining price, communications, corporate citizenship, enrollment and renewal, and customer service. DPL President and CEO Phil Herrington notes that “this award shows our customers that we are working hard to bring them the quality products and services they demand.”

AES Sonel Honored with 2013 International Edison Award

June 2013

The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) awarded AES Sonel the International Edison Award for 2013, to honor the company’s long-term commitment to improving the electricity sector and the overall economy and social well-being in Cameroon. AES completed a program to refurbish and add capacity to the electricity sector in the country, thereby turning it into one of the top performing electricity sectors in Sub Saharan Africa. By late 2012, power generation capacity in Cameroon had increased by 51%, transformation capacity by 38% and load shedding was reduced by nearly 90%. This was despite an average annual growth in demand of more than 6% and a doubling of the customer base.

This award marks the third win in a row for AES in the International Affiliate category and AES’ fourth win in seven years. See the EEI press release.

AES Receives Top Honors for Performance Excellence Program

May 2013

The Process Excellence Network, a global community of more than 70,000 process professionals, business leaders and executives, presented top honors to AES' Performance Excellence Program (APEX) — a set of tools and methodologies developed to address and solve key business issues — as well as to its Kumkoy Hepp Turbine Performance Improvement project in Turkey.
AES also received an honorary mention for its Improvement on Retention and Humanisation in IVR project in Brazil.

Dayton Power & Light and AES Honored with Awards for Storm Restoration Efforts from Edison Electric Institute

January 2013

The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) awarded Dayton Power & Light (DP&L) with two awards for storm restoration efforts during two major storms in 2012. DP&L received an Emergency Recovery Award for local storm restoration efforts after the June super derecho for making an "outstanding recovery." Despite the extensive damage caused by the storm, DP&L managed to restore all of its customers ahead of the projected timeframe. Separately, AES and DP&L were also recognized as part of an Emergency Assistance Award for helping East Coast utilities recover from Hurricane Sandy. EEI mentioned the "tremendous support in the recovery from Hurricane Sandy" when more than 200 crews to repair substations flooded with four feet of water and to aid several utilities as they restored downed wires in wind-damaged communities.

"This is the type of spirit that makes this country great," wrote Secretary Chu, who recognized DP&L employees in a post on the DOE website.

AES Brazil Recognized as a Model Sustainability Company by Guia Exame de Sustentabilidade

November 2012

The largest and most prestigious annual survey on sustainability in Brazil, Guia Exame de Sustentabilidade, has recognized AES Brazil as a Model Company for 2012. The survey, which analyzes businesses and their role in social responsibility efforts, is conducted by the most influential business magazine in Brazil, Exame. This recognition comes after AES Brazil took an important step in early 2012 towards inextricably integrating its business planning process with sustainability. Today, AES Brazil's programs are implemented to serve the economic, environmental and social development of its communities.

Andrés Gluski named Latin Trade International CEO of the Year Award

October 2012

Latin Trade Magazine has awarded Andrés Gluski as International CEO of the Year for his commitment and accomplishments as head of the AES Corporation. As described by Latin Trade, Gluski's "vast international experience has allowed him to transcend national and regional boundaries to continuously raise the bar for excellence in the industry."

AES Changuinola Recognized as Project of the Year for Environmental Sustainability

October 2012

AES Panama was recognized by HydroVision Brasil for its Changuinola project in the category of Environmental Sustainability for Energia Verde. This sustainable model of development, used during construction of the 223-MW Changuinola I project, exceeds the implementation of the Reforestation Plan required by the National Environmental Authority through an Environmental Impact Assessment. AES Panama committed to reforesting 800 hectares using seedlings produced by organized communities participating in a commercial and sustainable business relationship with AES.
